The rest of the cover is kept clear and dark, which is exactly what lets the silhouette carry. The bow above is a full round ring and the chain is darkened to the same tone.
Not every gousset chain was cut to swing. The single Albert ran from a waistcoat buttonhole to the pocket beside it and no further, keeping the watch close to hand and the loop neat. At about 30 cm this chain sits squarely in that tradition, and it suits a jacket pocket just as well.
