What a worn object actually does

Nobody sensible thinks a pendant changes the world. It is worth asking why people have worn them continuously for tens of thousands of years anyway.

The answer is fairly plain. A thing on your body is a thing you touch, and touching it returns you to whatever you decided it meant. It is a reminder with a physical form, available in the moment you need it and not dependent on remembering to think about anything.

People do this with wedding rings, with a relative's watch, with a coin from a good year. The Norse did it with hammers and wolves. The mechanism has not changed.

Which is why the meaning is yours

It is also why nobody else can tell you what your pendant means, including us. A wolf can stand for family, for endurance, for a person, for a period you got through.

The object does not supply that. It holds whatever you put in it.

The piece

A round disc with a single wolf's head in profile filling the centre, jaws open and muzzle raised. A raised band of runes runs the whole way round the rim, and the ground behind the animal is left rough so the head reads clearly against it.

Cord or chain

Cord is softer and quieter and suits an everyday, informal piece. Chain is more durable and more visible, and matches the pendant's own material.

Our wolf totem article covers the symbolism. See wolf pendant necklaces.
