The wolf is turned to face you, ears back, muzzle wrinkled and the teeth showing, with snow falling through a cold blue-grey dark behind it. Nothing subtle survives in the same room as that.
The pale grey and white of the coat sits straight against the dark background, so the head reads first and the body follows behind it. It survives being shrunk, printed badly and seen at a distance.
Practically, it means this is the piece that still works on a wall you only ever see from the other side of the room, where a subtler composition would be wasted.
A narrow palette of white, grey and near-black, with the falling snow picked out in soft white. There is not much here to argue with an existing colour scheme, and nothing that needs particular lighting to work.
It is the boldest of the neutral options: strong enough to hold a wall without adding a colour to the room, which is a harder balance than it sounds.
The image runs across a stepped row of panels, so give it the width of wall the whole set wants rather than sizing up for detail.
See the painting size chart, and our wolf decor range for the rest of the room.
