The design shows the pair nose to nose, one wolf leaning across to touch the other's muzzle in front of a full moon, the whole scene worked in violet and pink. That closeness is not invention.

Wolves in an established pair greet constantly. Muzzle licking, leaning, nuzzling, a great deal of physical contact that achieves nothing practical and exists purely to keep the bond intact. Most of what a settled pack does in a day is this rather than hunting.

Pairs commonly stay together for life, and a wild pack is that pair and their offspring rather than a group of rivals. The bond is the organising principle of the whole species.
