Almost every wolf design ever printed shows a stationary animal: standing, sitting, howling, staring out. This one is running, and it is the rarer and more difficult thing to draw.
The run comes straight at the viewer. The wolf charges out of deep snow with its forelegs clear of the ground, mouth open and spray thrown up around its chest, and the picture fills the panel from top to bottom instead of leaving empty fabric around a small motif.
The running is the accurate part. A wolf is not a sprinter; it is a distance animal, with long legs, a narrow chest and a gait that can be held for hours.
That is how hunting actually works. Prey is not overpowered, it is outlasted, and packs will follow a herd across serious ground before anything is decided.
