Head thrown back and muzzle open to the sky, this wolf is caught in the middle of a howl on a jumble of grey rock. The sculpt runs from the raised chin down through a thick neck ruff to a long tail carried low, with fur worked in fine strands across the shoulders and flanks. The colouring moves from warm grey and tan along the back into a pale cream chest, belly and legs, and the open mouth is finished in black.
The base is part of the sculpt rather than a plain plinth. Layered slabs of grey stone sit over a scatter of broken twigs and a fallen branch, with patches of green moss and lichen worked into the crevices. The wolf stands high on the topmost slab, forepaws close to the edge, so the whole figure reads as an animal that has climbed to find its voice.
The figure comes in two colourways. The grey measures 13 cm x 10 cm x 20.5 cm (5.1 x 3.9 x 8 inches). The white measures 9.06 x 6.38 x 4.49 inches.
A raised head and a long note carry further than most people assume, and there is more behind the habit than calling the pack together; our piece on why wolves howl goes into it. Set the figure with the rest of our wolf figurines on a mantelpiece, desk or shelf where the upward line of the head has room above it.
