A wolf raised by hand from a cub does not become a dog. It becomes a wolf that is used to you, which is a different and considerably more difficult thing.
Dogs went through thousands of years of selection to want human company and to defer to us. Wolves went through none of it. What you get instead is an animal that will test boundaries relentlessly, cannot be left with strangers, needs far more space than a house has, and reaches an age where it stops accepting your authority regardless of how it was raised.
People buy them expecting a dramatic dog. Sanctuaries take the results, in large numbers, usually at around two years old when the animal matures and the household stops coping.
The kindest thing you can do about loving wolves is to admire them and own a dog.
