Wolf Floor Rug Trio

Three wolves fill the centre of this rug, heads close enough to touch. A pale grey one is turned in profile on the left, a heavy brown and cream wolf looks straight out of the middle, and a third grey head is tucked in below. A beaded medallion hangs above them trailing teal and red feathers, and behind the group sits a large ornamented sun wheel in tan, gold and brick red.

The border does as much work as the middle. Corner mandalas, banded rows of red, green and cream triangles and a soft damask field give the piece the look of a woven blanket.

A pack is a family group

A wolf pack is a family rather than a gang. In most of Europe and North America it is a breeding pair plus their young from the last year or two, which usually comes to somewhere between three and six animals. The grown offspring leave in their second or third year to find ground of their own, so a trio of heads pressed together sits close to the everyday shape of wolf life.
