A howl carries. Over open ground a wolf's call reaches several miles, which is how a pack split by a chase finds itself again without a single sighting. The lid of this pocket watch holds that moment.
Inside a raised rectangular panel a wolf fills the foreground in profile, its coat picked out in fine lines. Behind it bare trunks stand in a winter wood, with one wolf sitting head thrown back mid howl and another crossing the middle ground. Around the panel runs a border of raised leaves, flowers and small rivet studs.
Two feathers swing out on short links, one at either shoulder, worked in the same metal as the case. Above them the crown is fluted and set on a rosette, and the chain runs down from the fitting at the top. At about 1.5 cm thick, the case gives all that relief somewhere to stand.
