Why buy a pendant with no chain
The first option here is Only Pendant, which looks like an oversight and is not.
Most people who wear jewellery daily already own a chain they like: the right length, the right weight, the right metal, already proven not to irritate their skin. Buying a fourth chain with every pendant is how a drawer fills with chains nobody wears.
If you have one you already trust, buy the pendant alone and put it on that.
When to take the chain or the leather
Take the chain if this is a gift, or if it is your first pendant and you have nothing to hang it from. It arrives ready to wear, which matters when the alternative is a box with half a present in it.
Take the leather if you want the informal version. Leather is warmer against the skin and quieter, and it will age and eventually need replacing, especially if it gets wet.
One thing to check
The pendant is a wolf's head seen straight on, the ruff cut into spiked strands and darkened in the recesses, with a diamond rune on the brow and two lines crossing down over the muzzle. The bail above it is broad and flat and carries a rune of its own.
If you are using your own chain, look at the bail, the loop the chain passes through. A thick chain will not fit a narrow bail, which is the one way this choice goes wrong. This one is generous, so most chains will pass.
