Artistic Wolf Comforter Set

Splashes of scarlet, violet and marine blue burst around this wolf, and the animal itself is drawn largely in the spaces the paint leaves behind. The muzzle, the brow and the pale chest are bare cloth. Your eye assembles the head from the colour that surrounds it.

Loose colour on a white ground

The ground is left white, and that is what makes the scatter work. Warm reds and oranges gather along one shoulder, cooler blues and purples drift out across the other, and stray flecks land well clear of the head like paint thrown from a loaded brush. With nothing behind it, every mark keeps its own edge.

Printing paint

A watercolour original is all soft edges and half tones rather than flat blocks, so the painting is given room: a single centred image with clear white cloth all around it. The wolf holds the middle of the cover, and the pillow covers take a cropped section of the same painting so the colour carries on past the shoulders of the bed.
