Greyscale changes what you notice about a wolf. With colour gone, the eye goes to structure: the dark mask across the brow, the pale bridge of the muzzle, the enormous ruff at the chest that a wolf raises to look larger, and the winter light picking out individual guard hairs along the shoulders. The photograph runs across the full canopy, the animal standing square to the camera in blurred woodland, its eyes holding the centre of the frame.
Eight solid fibre ribs draw the canopy into an octagon and share the load evenly around the rim, which is what gives the open shape its clean geometry. The fabric is a waterproof polyester pongee, and dye sublimation printing sets the tones into the fibre itself, so the deep blacks stay deep rather than washing back over time.
The handle is plastic, and the shaft folds down to a compact length for a bag or a desk drawer.
