The image everybody knowsTwo wolves in profile beneath a full moon is about the most reproduced arrangement in wolf art, and there is a reason for that. A bright disc at one end of the picture and a pair of hard-edged heads at the...

Why almost all wolf imagery is winterIt is not a stylistic preference. Winter is when wolves can be seen.Tracks hold in snow, a grey animal separates from a white field, and the trees are bare. Population surveys are flown in winter for exactly these...

Every hair on this wolf is drawn as a filament of light. The face comes straight at you out of a solid black ground, built from thousands of fine glowing strands in white, gold, amber, green and cold blue, with two red eyes holding...

A gaze built to be readGrey wolves have faces made to be looked at. A pale iris sits inside a dark rim, with lighter fur around the eye and along the brow, and among the wild dogs of the world that combination makes the...

The forest is half the pictureTwo wolves among the pines, with the woodland given as much weight as the animals. That balance is unusual: most wildlife art treats the background as a backdrop. Here the trees carry structure and vertical rhythm, and the wolves sit...

A black wolf in bright snowThe setting does most of the work. A dark animal against fresh snow and pale birch trunks has about as much tonal separation as a photograph can give you, so the outline stays clean and the coat keeps the...

Two wolves meet nose to nose at the centre of this design, their heads built from fine scrolls, dots and hatching that shift from violet at the ears through blue to sea green in the feathers and leaves below. The gap their muzzles leave...

The animal is not the subjectThe wolf is in this picture, but the mountains are what the piece is about. It is looking out at snowy peaks under grey cloud rather than out at you. That makes it the easiest painting in our range to...

A hoop with a nameThe dreamcatcher printed around this wolf is Ojibwe in origin. In Anishinaabemowin the word is asabikeshiinh, meaning spider, and the early ones were small willow hoops laced with nettle fibre and hung above a cradleboard. The story belongs to Asibikaashi,...

Play, not conflictTwo wolves messing about on snow. It is a rare subject in wolf art, which runs heavily toward menace, and that alone makes it worth having. It is also accurate. Adult wolves play throughout their lives, not just as pups, with bows and...

Five panels wideThis is the largest format in our range and it exists for one reason: some walls are wider than any single canvas sensibly goes.Five panels cover considerably more wall than a single piece at the same price, and each panel is light...

That moon is not the right sizeDeliberately so. The real moon covers about half a degree of sky, roughly a pencil eraser held at arm's length, and it is the same size whether it looks huge on the horizon or small overhead.Painting it larger...

They walk in each other's footprintsA pack crossing deep snow travels in single file, each animal placing its feet in the tracks of the one ahead. Only the leader breaks trail, and that job rotates. The saving is enormous. Pushing through fresh snow is exhausting,...

Two motifs, one frameTwo wolf heads howling at the moon, held inside a dreamcatcher. Both symbols run right through our range, and they belong together more than most pairings do.The dreamcatcher is Ojibwe in origin: a woven web inside a hoop, hung above a...

A portrait built almost entirely from darks Painters call this a low key picture: most of the values sit in the bottom half of the scale, and only a few marks are allowed to be light. The background here is near black with a...
