The lone wolf is the exception in wolf life, not the rule. Almost every wolf spends almost its whole life in company, and the solitary state is a brief and dangerous phase between leaving one family and founding another.
Folklore has wolves descending on villages in their dozens. Real packs typically run five to eleven animals, and that includes the pups.
The reason a chorus sounds like more is deliberate. Wolves howling together avoid matching each other's pitch, and a handful of animals can sound like a considerably larger group to anything listening from a distance.
Group compositions spread horizontally, so this wants a wide wall rather than a tall one. Above a sofa or a sideboard suits it.
